Roofing square
A unit of roof area equal to 100 square feet. Every roofing bid in the United States is priced in squares, not square feet.
In practice
A 2,000 square foot roof surface is 20 squares. If a bid quotes "$450 per square" it means $450 per 100 square feet installed. Learning this one unit makes every cost page on this site readable.
