Eave
The lower edge of a roof, usually overhanging the wall, where gutters are hung and intake ventilation enters.
In practice
Almost everything difficult about roofs happens at the eave: ice dams form here, intake air enters here, gutters hang here, and the ice barrier is measured from here.
