Advertising disclosure
Last updated: 17 August 2026.
No advertising is currently running on this site. These are the rules for when it does.
What advertising can buy
Space. That is the entire list.
What it can never buy
Coverage, placement in our recommendations, a favourable mention, removal of an unfavourable one, or any influence over a safety verdict or a cost range. Our editorial and commercial sides do not negotiate, because on a site whose only asset is independence there is nothing to negotiate with.
Advertisers are not shown pages before they publish and do not review our content.
Labelling
Advertising will be visually distinct and labelled. Where a unit could be mistaken for editorial content, it will carry an explicit “Advertisement” label, per the FTC’s guidance on native advertising.
Layout
Ad slots are reserved with fixed dimensions so that loading an ad never shifts the content you are reading. Our performance budget treats a layout shift as a defect.
Consent
Advertising cookies are off unless you accept them. See the cookie policy. Where a vendor supports it we signal your choice with Google Consent Mode v2. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal we honour it regardless of the banner.
Vendors will be named on this page and in the privacy policy before any tag is placed.
Where ads will not run
We will not accept advertising from roofing contractors, roofing lead-generation companies, public adjuster firms, or insurance carriers on the insurance section. Those are precisely the parties whose interests the insurance content exists to explain to you.
