Affiliate disclosure

Last updated: 17 August 2026.

There are currently no affiliate links on this site. This page sets out the rules that will apply if and when there are, so they are on the record before any money is involved.

The disclosure

If we ever earn a commission from a link, we will say so in plain language above the fold on that page, in line with the FTC’s endorsement guidance at 16 CFR Part 255. Affiliate links carry rel="sponsored nofollow".

Only on genuinely do-it-yourself-appropriate products that a ground-level task actually calls for: roof rakes, sealant, gutter guards, attic ventilation accessories.

Where they are permanently prohibited

These are enforced in our build, not left to editorial discretion. Any of them fails the build:

  • Any page carrying a pro-only safety verdict. We are not going to tell you not to go on your roof and then sell you something to do it with.
  • Anywhere in the insurance section. That content only works if we have nothing riding on what you do.
  • Any fall-protection product. Harnesses, anchors, lifelines. Selecting and using fall protection correctly is training, not shopping, and a commission on it would be grotesque.
  • Roofing materials themselves. Shingles, panels, tile. The choice of covering is the most expensive decision on this site and we will not have a stake in it.

What we will never do

We do not take payment for coverage, for placement, or for a favourable mention. We do not accept free product in exchange for a review. We do not sell leads.

If a product recommendation and a commission ever point in different directions, the recommendation wins, or the page carries no link at all.
