Gable
The triangular section of wall at the end of a ridged roof, and by extension a roof with two sloping planes meeting at a ridge.
In practice
A gable roof is simple and cheap to build and easy to ventilate, but it presents a flat vertical face to the wind, which is why hip roofs tend to perform better in hurricane zones.
